ACTING FOR TEENS: From Shakespeare to Sondheim…and beyond!

AGES: 12-17

PRICE $400 each session, $700 for both. Students can do the first week, second week, or both weeks.

SESSION ONE: July 15 — July 19, Monday through Friday, 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM

SESSION TWO: July 22 — July 26, Monday through Friday, 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM

This masterclass workshop is geared for the teen actor with previous stage experience who wants to take their training to the next level. The workshop includes a full day of voice training, movement training, scene and monologue study, audition prep, improvisation, theatre games, and more!

Students who attend both weeks will present scenes and songs they’ve worked on in class before an invited audience at the Historic Hoover Theatre on Saturday, July 27, 7:00 PM.

INSTRUCTOR: Gary De Mattei
New York-based actor, director, and teacher, Gary De Mattei, leads this masterclass especially designed for actors who want to brush up their Shakespeare. The workshop will use the Folger edition of Shakespeare’s ROMEO AND JULIET as the teaching text. In this workshop, actors will learn how to fearlessly approach Shakespeare’s plays by learning a four-step process designed by Mr. De Mattei.

Bring a speech that you want to work on from any Shakespeare play.

Students will present some of the scenes and monologues they worked on in class at a final presentation on July 27 at 7:00 PM.

INSTRUCTOR: Caryn Hartglass

This class is geared for the student who likes to sing and wants to improve. Work two days a week with award-winning vocalist and instructor Caryn Hartglass and a live pianist. Learn how to put your audition book together. Learn how to seamlessly transition from uptempo to ballad. Learn how to effectively act the song without acting. You will work with your favorite material from the classical and contemporary Broadway repertory.

Students will present some of the songs they worked on in class at a final presentation on July 27 at 7:00 PM.
